Expect to see more professionals leaving their cars at home and deciding to ride a scooter or motorbike to work, social trends researchers predict.
The Sunday Telegraph says new research has found there has been a 10 per cent increase in bike registrations in the last 12 months alone and a 36 per cent increase in numbers since 2003.
Speaking to the Telegraph, social researcher Mark McCrindle says the growing popularity of scooters stems from their ability to make riders feel both green and cool.
The ability to take advantage of free parking at inner city locations and avoidance of the waiting times involved in public transport commutes are also cited as reasons for their growing popularity.

I was in New York on business several years ago and saw the popularity of scooters as commuter vehicles.
So when I came back to Australia I attended a motorcycle riders training course, and purchased a SYM HD 200 scooter.
These scooters are high tech, have disc brakes, water cooled, can cruise all day at a 100 km's an hr, are very reliable, and fun to ride.
Attending meetings in Melbourne where you can legally park on footpaths is a absolute joy.
I am 50 plus and I wish I had become a scooter commuter a lot sooner.
My field of interest is stress management and when I ride I find I ride with a smile on my face and arrive home after a busy day nice and de stressed.
