Avon is calling loud and clear and Tupperware parties are back in vogue as a growing number of Aussie mums adopt the direct selling trend to earn some much-needed extra cash, The Daily Telegraph reports.
The Direct Selling Association of Australia says it has noted an increasing number of people joining the industry over the last six to eight months as the GFC bites.
Direct sales company Nutrimetics claims to have experienced a 40 per cent rise in consultant number over the last six months; Tupperware says its demonstrator numbers have increased by 6 per cent.
While the main factor behind the growth in direct selling is said to be additional income (one Nutrimetics consultant says can earn up to $1,800 a month), other drivers of the trend are the ability to pick up cheap products and social activity.
Of all the goods offered by these companies it’s suggested women are most interested in ‘feel good’ products like lipstick, bras and briefs.
