Forget the old 'would you like fries with that?' line, a new generation of point-of-sale (POS) suggestive serving devices is upping the technology ante.
According to BusinessWeek, retailers now have access to POS display screen technology that analyses a customer's purchases before revealing additional products that might suit their needs.
The approach appears to be working for early adopters. Israel's Aroma Espresso Bars claims the technology has increased sales of featured desserts and drinks by nearly 70 per cent.
Facial recognition is also being used in this area. Another new POS system utilises a tiny camera to create a customer profile based on facial features to offer tailored purchasing suggestions.
