The first presentation of the evening is the AIM Board-conferred Fisher & Paykel Medal for Management Innovation.
This year's Medal is presented by Marion Barron from Fisher & Paykel.
This Invitational Medal was introduced by the AIM Board in 2002 in order to recognise the significance of innovation to the ongoing prosperity of this state and nation. The philosophy behind the Medal is to celebrate those leaders who have explored, embraced and modeled innovation.
It honours a Queenslander who has developed a concept or practice that has significantly improved or changed the industry or sector in which they work.
If there is one common driver shared by both Fisher & Paykel and the Australian Institute of Management, it's our joint commitment to innovative living.
Fisher and Paykel are delighted to once again sponsor the Medal for Management Innovation. Innovation is our heart. We aim to innovate in all we do, from the big ideas through to the detail. And that’s the determined approach we have observed in previous medal winners.
AIM has always believed in the importance of innovation and is clear about its meaning. For AIM, innovation a process of leveraging creativity to capture, develop and implement new ideas to create value through new products, processes, business and management concepts. At its heart innovation is about change that adds value.
The AIM definition of Management Innovation is the determined, rather than serendipitous, creation of a culture where new ideas are generated, valued, rigorously evaluated, supported and implemented.
It is about institutionalising innovation so that innovation becomes a hallmark of the organisation itself and the how the organisation brings its goods and services to market.
In previous years this Medal has been awarded to Queensland innovators – Brett Godfrey from Virgin Airlines, Graeme Wood from Wotif.com, John Stainton, manager and producer of the late and much loved Steve Irwin, Mark Henry, founder and design engineer of Furitechnics, a worldwide knife phenomenon and in 2007 Deborah Fleming, Executive Producer of the ABC’s Australian Story.
It gives me great pleasure to announce that the recipient of the 2007 Fisher & Paykel Medal for Management Innovation is Dr Maha Sinnathamby, Chairman of the Springfield Land Corporation.
